I hope you are safe and well. With the latest positive news, we have received from the government the club is looking at the coming season with a positive outlook. Martin has been working hard on organising fixtures for Thursday and Saturday afternoons. All fixtures have been confirmed, it hoped that all these will go ahead. Should these fixtures be cancelled for any unforeseen circumstances and we can still play at the club will be running additional club competitions to fill in the for the cancelled fixtures. A inter club pair or triples league has been suggested by the committee.
You may or may not be aware that next season is a special year for the club as it is the clubs 125th anniversary. To celebrate the anniversary the club will be having some additional fixtures, these include a game against Bowls England as well as Bowls Northamptonshire. Furthermore, will be looking at two separate afternoons/evenings where will be inviting a total of 12 clubs for a six-rink fixture. Alan has also been in contact a company called Club Shop Direct who produce diaries, fridge magnets, bowls towels etc. We will be working with them to organise anniversary memorabilia for next season. At present, they have sent him a draft copy of a diary and this is something that the committee has agreed would be a nice addition to be giving out to members next season.
Over the last few seasons, the club has been saving for the special season by putting in funds made from raffles in what it has called the ‘anniversary fund’ this season we need one last push to add to this as it help pay for the additional fixtures and memorabilia.
With next season being the clubs 125th anniversary Alan has been using his spare time to do some research in to the club’s history with some remarkably interesting findings. He has summarised his findings in a document which can be found on the club’s website which is www.westendbowlsclub.co.uk then click on the ‘About us’ tag.
The club will be having an opening weekend in the hope to gain some members on the bank holiday weekend of the 29th of May, this will be supported by Bowls England. Additional information will be given out nearer the time. Any support to advertise the weekend will greatly appreciated.
The club is looking at getting a new club shirt for the start of the 2022 season. Some designs have been drawn up by me and Martin and these will be on show in the club for members to have their say on so we can finalise the design.
THE CLUB NEEDS YOUR HELP! The club is looking a little below its best. There are plenty of jobs that need completing before we can open for the start of the season, these include fence painting, repairing fences, painting the ladies changing rooms, tidying the car park and many more. Your help would be greatly appreciated. We will be getting a workforce together at the club on Saturday 3rd April @ 10am, feel free to meet at the club and we can organise the jobs that need completing.
I would like to invite you to return to the club on Friday 30th April for members night @ 7pm. The bar will be open for outside table service subject to government roadmap. Please be ensured that the club will be following all the necessary guidelines when re-opening and we will be a COVID-19 safe environment.
I look forward to your safe return to the club and seeing you throughout the summer.
