Last year was another successful year for Northampton West End B.C. Jamie Walker successfully defended all three county singles titles and the pairs title for the third year in a row along with his partner Shaun Marriott. The singles and pairs being the first time somebody has successfully defended one of the main four events for three years in a row. Jamie went on to successfully win the national under 25 singles at Leamington in his last year in the competition. Jamie went on to claim another national title in the national mixed fours along with team mates Darren Childs, Rebecca Wigfield, and Katie Smith. There was one more county honour to be claimed last year and this came in the form on the county mixed pairs this honour was won by Janet & Alan Ashby.
The success of Northampton West End B.C did not stop at the end of the summer season. Whilst we were all enjoy the time off or bowling indoors Jamie flew out to New Zealand at the end of November to take part in the World Champions his first time in this event. He was to take part in the triples alongside Andrew Knapper (Berkshire) and Robert Paxton (Devon). Jamie lead the triple that went on win 8/9 games in his group which put them automatically in to the semi-finals, were they came up against Japan who they were to beat comfortably. This set up a final against Australia which was a thrilling game that went all the way to an extra and Jamie’s first bowl on the extra end proved to be the bowl that meant the English triple would clinch the gold medal. Jamie also played in the singles event after the triples had finished, he could only manage to finish fourth in his group in the singles which meant he missed out on reaching the knockout stages.
Jamie has also been selected to represent England in a warm up tournament for next years’ commonwealth games in Brisbane. He will be flying out to Australia at the end of April for two and half weeks to play in the tournament. We wish him all the best.
