Last year was another successful year for Northampton West End B.C. The club were winners of two men’s county titles and runners up in another. Darren Childs won the county singles title with William & David Walker picking up the men’s pairs title. Darren was runner-up in the county triples alongside Ashley Linnell and Jamie Walker.
At the national finals, the success didn’t end there. Darren Childs was a losing semi-finalist in the national singles, David and William made the quarterfinals of the national pairs. Northamptonshire Under 25’s was successful in the White Rose trophy. The white rose trophy is the national under 25 double rinks, the club was well represented in this national title. William and David Walker formed the back end in one rink, with Danny Walker and Nathan Betts being involved in the other rink. This is a great title to win and with half of the team being from the club makes it extra special.
We as a club are always looking for new members, so if any member knows of a prospective bowler or a friend who is thinking of taking up bowls please bring them along to the club to show them what we have to offer.
Last year the club played host to the local resident association (Hills Scheme) for a summer party. The day entailed music in the clubhouse, target bowls on the green, stalls run by the local residents selling homemade cakes and sweets. It was so good to see many of the local residents up the club who didn’t even know we existed. The day was so successful that they requested using the club for a Christmas party which the club was more than happy to go along with. Once again this was very successful with a turn out of around 70 residents. These sort of events are valuable revenue for the club and a good way to attract new members. We have arranged for another summer party at the club where we have a Saturday free from a fixture, this will be included in the fixture and if any members are willing to help ensure the day runs a smoothly as last year it would be greatly appreciated.
The committee has arranged for the AGM to be on Thursday 21st March at 7 pm. The committee is hopeful for a good turn as there a numerous roles that need to be filled on the evening to ensure a smooth running season. The committee looks forward to seeing all members on the evening.
